Dennis Reeve
Managing Partner

Sometimes, our destiny finds us. Dennis Reeve did not set out to become a criminal lawyer; in fact, he explains, “When I was in law school, I did not think I had the right personality for criminal law.” His plans changed dramatically, however, when he began articling for Clive Bynoe, who was, at that time, one of the most respected cross-examiners in Ontario.

Dennis’s first steps into the world of criminal defence were a little daunting, he admits: “The first time I appeared in court was pretty scary. Soon though, I found that I had developed a genuine interest in this area of law, and I was intrigued by the challenge and the excitement of it.” During his work with Clive Bynoe, Dennis garnered considerable experience and insight into the practice of criminal law, from public speaking skills to navigating courtroom procedures.
Today, Dennis still credits Clive Bynoe with instilling in him the professionalism and priorities that have become the foundation for a successful legal career. Among those priorities are open communication and complete honesty with each of his clients. Dennis explains, “I want my clients to be able to understand everything that is happening and why it is happening. These interpersonal relationships are so important; without that trust, it is impossible for me to do my job. And the only way to earn that trust is to be straightforward and honest with them.” These basic building blocks have formed the cornerstone of his practice at ReeveLaw, and have guided him in representing hundreds of clients throughout Newmarket, Markham, and surrounding communities. Dennis Reeve also brings to his work the insight that he gained working as a Crown prosecutor. This experience helps him to assess each case through the eyes of the prosecution, analyze a case from every possible angle, and to construct the best possible defence for each client.

In addition to his successful defence practice, Dennis is active in the legal community as an educator. He has worked in Lithuania, giving seminars and lectures to prosecutors, police, and law students on subjects such as domestic violence and criminal procedures followed by the Ontario Attorney General. Dennis also works with a variety of charities, including the Youth Unlimited, SCA International, Janz Team Ministries, and the Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada.

Today, more than 37 years after he started practicing law, Dennis Reeve knows that his decision to pursue a career in criminal law was the right one. He continues to relish the challenge and excitement of working to protect his clients’ rights, and he still makes it a point to approach each case with the same drive, determination, and desire for justice as he did when he first began.
